American Idol Concert

I am finally just getting ready to prepare myself to write my American Idol concert review. I can't believe it has taken me this long to get around to it, especially when I have so much free time on my hands. Anyway, it was probably THE best Idol concert I've been to! I couldn't have imagined it going any better. My mom and I got ready pretty early so we could get to LA at a decent time. I had been looking all over for the American Idol highlights CD from this season, but couldn't find it at the two Wal-Marts we went to; they weren't very helpful, so we decided to stop at one on our way down there. They had it! I knew the trip was off to a good start from there. When we made it to the LA area, we had lunch at Kings Road Cafe. Unfortunately, there were no celeb sightings (other than some random comedian guy that I'm pretty sure was on Home Improvement), but I did see a few "People of LA" which was entertaining. It was a really nice day out, so we sat on the patio.

After we finished lunch, we had to stop by Dodger Stadium to pick up some collector bobble heads that had just come in. Well, there were some interesting things that happened around there, but eventually we made it. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to come out, so I was constantly checking Twitter to see whether the Idols had updated anything about being in LA. Once we were done with that, I figured it was time to get to Nokia to see if anyone was around. It turns out they do things very different with the buses at Nokia, and I hadn't really checked into it. They were on a roof of the parking garage across the street, meaning the chances of them being there were pretty slim, and there was absolutely nothing else going on. I had to take medicine, so we went to Starbucks to get some tea and hang out a bit. But, after awhile I was tired of sitting there, so we decided to scope out things a little more.

My new boots!  (In honor of Colton)
We walked over near the parking garage/entrance for important people, and there were a few fans sitting down. We waited a little awhile, but the area was pretty dead....Basically, I'll spare you a lot of detail and just say we waited on a bench for a long time for absolutely nothing! LOL. That's when we saw Joshua Ledet's mom walking in the side door. When she came back out, I thought we could say "hi" since we had talked to their family at the finale-they were in line behind us. We were trying to catch up to her, when we actually ran into Heejun. I got a picture with him, only to find out my eyes were closed...BUMMER. But, oh well. Afterwards, we caught up to Mrs. Ledet and talked to her for a good 25 minutes probably. She is one of the sweetest ladies; telling us all about Joshua's journey, how they'd been praying for him, and what an experience it was in general. She was also saying how relaxed everyone was backstage that afternoon, in comparison to right before a taping. I can imagine how high nerves are when it comes to the actual season. GAH!

We still had around 2-3 hours to kill, so we'd wander around, sit down, try to think of something to do, come up with nothing, and end up sitting back down and checking Facebook/Twitter feeds. Go figure! It was still fun hanging out with mom, devising plans and just going back and forth between our witty selves. It was getting closer to show time, so they brought out merchandise, fans were filing in for meet and greets, and Glozell was even out about entertaining the crowd! HAHA. Awhile later, we headed inside as soon as the doors opened, found our seats, got some snacks, and listened to the videos they played on the screens 4,000 times at least. By the end of the night, we had those songs memorized! That happened at the last Idol show we went to also, but with a Daughtry song instead.

Finally, the show started and I was so excited! I loved this group of people so much. Week after week, each of them would grow on me for a different reason. I loved the fact that they all seemed to be so close, and weren't quite as cliquey as some in past seasons. They all genuinely act like family, and after meeting/seeing them at the finale, it was really cool to be able to see them perform live! The highlights for me include:

  • "Moves Like Jagger"-Colton, Hollie, Erika and Joshua
  • Erika seriously blew me away. It's crazy that she was the first to get voted off, because she has some pipes!
  • "Party Rock"-Heejun, Jessica and DeAndre
  • "Rumor Has It"-Elise, Erika and DeAndre
  • All of Colton's set! ...Just, wow. He's incredible.
  • Top 9 singing "Just The Way You Are/What Makes You Beautiful"
  • Hollie's set! She gave me goodies! I don't understand how the judges couldn't see how amazing she was.
  • Joshua killed it! All of it! He can seriously sing, and he feels every ounce of music that is up on that stage. I was so glad he sang "Runaway." I think I could possibly like his version better than Bruno's. I also liked his duet with Jessica that they sang on the finale.
  • Phillip's set! Especially "Somebody That I Used To Know" with Elise. It was definitely one of my favorite performances on the show, and of course, "Home." It was cool that he was back to sing it again, and remembering being there that night for the finale. I was hoping the band would be there again, but alas, they were not. I loved Colton doing backup on it as well! :)
  • The Top 10 "Glad You Came"

It was definitely one of those feel good concerts that after you leave, you just feel better having gone. It was cool to see so many people of different ages: kids, teens, adults, and senior citizens all in the same place. It's rare that that happens for a concert these days. I love that they're all so relatable. As Colton even said, he was in our seats last year, and look where he is now. It gives me hope that there's still a chance for me to "make it" if it's in God's plans for me. Those things just always have a way of working themselves out.
After the show ended, we had talked about possibly meeting up with Joshua's mom...but, that's a long story. We waited outside, just hanging around, hoping to run into her, but we couldn't find her, so we kept waiting and walking in that area, hoping that maybe the Idols would come out, since they were staying in LA that night. I knew that usually they come out after the shows by the buses and sign, but with them staying in town, and the buses being on the roof, I wasn't exactly sure where they'd be doing it, if at all. After about an hour or so, we just decided to have a seat right in front of Nokia. There are glass windows, so you can see basically everything that's going on inside. My mom spotted a girl that looked like Hollie, and it was! She was also with Joshua and Skylar. They were taking an escalator down to what they call Club Nokia.  Then, Heejun and Elise walked out. A few minutes later, we saw Colton. That made me go up to the window! I tried to knock on it to get his attention, but the ladies that worked there started coming to the window as soon as I did, so I walked off. We tried peeking down below through the window, because you could see that the press was set up and they were doing interviews, but that didn't last long, because the guy at the merchandise table made us leave. Because standing two stories above them through the window is really going to do a lot of harm. *SMH* Anyway, we were informed that around the side is where they'd be coming out. We were like, "Uh, okay..." So, we walked around to the side entrance, across the street from Staples Center to see barricades set up and hundreds of fans lined up, waiting. Oh, so that's what they were talking about. That's when I heard my name being called. It always catches me off guard when I'm out of town and hear my name, because I forget I know people down there. I turned to see my friend, who I usually run into at things like this, and ended up calling me over, and we sort of squeezed in with her. I don't think many people around us were too happy about that...But....What can you do? We've had so many times where people have cut in front of us, and really, now you do just sort of have to squeeze in when you can. As harsh as it is, it's a dog eat dog world sometimes. We waited about 15 minutes, and all of a sudden we heard cheering and screaming from the people who were facing the door. It was Hollie! I was so excited because her and Colton were my favorites, and I didn't get a chance to meet her at the finale. She was incredibly sweet and gracious; I was so excited that I forgot to give her the card and lollipop I had gotten for her! LOL. Then, Erika and Elise not too long after. I was so glad to meet Elise because she was another favorite, and she was really sweet, taking her time with all of the fans. Not too long after, Colton came out! I had already met him at the finale...but, it's COLTON. You can never have too many pictures with him ;) haha. He was signing for everyone! I got my CD cover signed, but wasn't able to talk to him at all. He ended up remembering my friend, so they spent most of the time talking in our area, and then he moved on. He wasn't taking pictures, because he was in a hurry since his family was getting into town. The security guard told us that after Colton, no one else would be coming out, and we hadn't been able to get ahold of my dad, because the cell reception in the area sucked. So, we decided it was time to go. I wish we would've been able to wait around a few minutes, because as we drove off, I could've sworn I saw Colton posing for pictures for the smaller crowd that was left. :( Oh well! There's always next time.

It was such an incredible night; I had a blast! It was just another reminder that even though Idol might be taking some different turns that it would've when they first started, it helps us connect to the music world in a way that no other show or anyone else ever has. I feel like these people could be my friends. They have a lot of the same beliefs, dreams, and goals that I do, and if we lived in the same city, they'd be the type of people I'd hang out with. That's what the show is all about...reminding us of the beauty of dreams. When I think back to a lot of my favorite artists and some of my favorite people in general, they've come from American Idol. They've introduced me to so many incredible friends and have helped me through some hard times in my life. I'll always be grateful for this show.

After meeting Colton, we headed back to the parking lot, hit the freeway and came home. My mom and I were so tired, but still on the buzz from the concert, and just ready to get home. After a couple more interesting moments and a short detour (thanks to one of the lanes being closed, and throwing us in a completely different direction), and a stop at In-N-Out (our usual 'after concert' dinner) we made it home. I had planned on going straight to bed, but I got a little distracted looking at the tour book and reliving some of the moments in my head. Finally, exhaustion kicked in and I was out. But, what a night to remember! I got a ton of videos and some good pictures; I might post a few more videos later on, but for now, I'll leave you with a short montage of the highlights.

That's all for now,
Shelby

If you've been to the show, what was your favorite part? If you haven't who would you go just to see?

Good In Goodbye (Fiction Series) Part Ten

"Stacey!" I knew I had recognized the voice, but I thought I was losing it. Maybe fearing that moment in a way. I saw Brad, my ex boyfriend, with his wife and two kids, heading straight towards us. I hadn't seen him since we'd broken up, close to five or so years ago. I guess he had been busy since then too.
"Brad," I smiled, fumbling with my hands, and nervously biting my lip, as I walked closer to them.
Carter followed closely behind me, wrapping his arm around my waist. He could sense how awkward I felt about this run in, and was trying to make it as painless as possible.
"How are you?" He had this glow about him that I'd never actually seen before. I glanced to his wife, who was also beaming. He hadn't changed much. He still had the same dark hair, perfect posture, perfect smile, muscles, and looked like a walking ad for Ralph Lauren. I looked a little closer at his wife. She looked nothing like me. She was extremely tall, tan, had freckles, dark hair and looked like she probably had descendents from Italy. Their kids were around one and two, complete with matching outfits, sitting quietly in their strollers. They really were the perfect family. Mentally I was picturing what it would've been like if I were still with him. I realized I probably would have gone crazy.
"I'm really good. We're actually back in town for Carter's concert tonight. He's playing at the Giants Stadium for his first headlining tour!" I was feeling as proud as someone could of their spouse right now.
"Oh, that's right. I thought I read somewhere you guys would be back for that. That's awesome, Carter! Congrats," Brad nodded, making eye contact with Carter, as I analyzed their body language.
"Thanks. I'm glad I can finally see all of the places Stacey has told me so much about," He kind of gave a questioning look. I hadn't even thought of introducing them, but then it occurred to me that Brad's wife was probably in the blue too.
"I should probably introduce you guys," I blurted, feeling all eyes on me. "Brad, this is my husband, Carter Danon. Babe, this is Brad...My ex," the last part was probably a given. But, I felt that I still needed to say it after all this time. Brad introduced his wife to us too. I found out her name was Melissa.
"I figured that's who it was," He chuckled politely. Melissa didn't say much, and I can't blame her, she just smiled and kept checking on the kids occasionally as I told Brad about work, and traveling with Carter. "Nice to meet you guys," we exchanged hand shakes.
"We watch you on E! News every night," Melissa informed me,"I hope that's not weird," She started apologizing.
I paused, thinking back to everything we'd all been through. Me with Brad. Me with Carter. The two relationships couldn't even compare to another, so I don't know why I was bothering.
"Not at all. We've grown up...Or rather, I've grown up since then, and I need to say this," I told Brad and Melissa. "For awhile, I didn't think I would ever find anyone or that I wanted to, because I had been so comfortable with Brad, but then I realized after we broke up that wasn't the kind of relationship I wanted. I mean no disrespect to you, but life always works out the way it's supposed to. I don't regret any of the time we spent together, because for that time we made sense. But, God had a different plan all along, and we're both where we're meant to be." As I said the words, a cool breeze started to kick up. It was almost symbolic of a new change of wind that was heading my way. I felt free of the past. I let out a sigh, and smiled. "I really am glad to see that you're happy. You guys fit together so perfectly. Much better than you and I ever would've. You have an adorable family."
"That means a lot to me that you said that," Brad told me, "I couldn't agree more," I saw him glance down at the smiling faces on his children. "Do you guys have any kids?"
I glanced to Carter, who had been letting me do most of the talking, nodded, "We're actually expecting our first baby next March," I beamed, as Carter rubbed his hand along my back.
"Congratulations!" Melissa told us. "You really have no idea how much it will change your life until it happens. You think getting married is the best thing in the world, and then this tiny baby grabs your finger as soon as it's out of the womb, and suddenly you feel this love that you've never known."
As I heard her describing that feeling, I couldn't help but be excited, and the hormones started kicking in, as tears fell from my eyes. "Thank you for that! We're really excited about it. It'll mean settling down in one place for quite awhile, which might be hard at first, but I think we'll be glad for it after the baby comes."
"Definitely!" they both agreed with me.
A couple seconds of silence passed, and we all knew in an unspoken way that it was time to say goodbye.
"It was great running into you guys, and meeting you Carter," Brad nodded towards us, and we agreed.
"Yeah, it was great meeting you guys too,"Carter told the couple, and I thought to myself how good it was to see them too. I didn't even mean it in a sarcastic way this time.
A few minutes later, we had split up again. I was still quietly smiling to myself as they walked away, while Carter and I headed back to the car.
"You okay?" He asked me, pulling me into a tight embrace. I closed my eyes, and leaned my head against his chest, while he continued to talk,"I'm proud of you!"
"For what?" I looked up into his hazel eyes, trying to figure out where he was going with it.
"The way you handled yourself today with Brad and his wife."
"It was nothing!" I shrugged off.
"Are you sure? Because when I first met you, I think you were still pretty hung up on the idea of him," he smiled at me, but I knew he was hurt by it.
"Yeah," I sighed,"I was. But, I didn't know anything different until you. How could I have?"
"It's just cool to see how far you've come." We made our way to the car, and Carter opened the door for me. I slid inside, as he walked to the other side and started up our Mercedes SUV.
"I have you to thank for that!" I looked down to my stomach, feeling the baby that was on its way. "I thought I had lost it all. I thought there was no way I could come back from that relationship. But, sometimes...You have to let go of certain people and certain things in your life to make way for the things God really has planned for you. Sometimes there's good in goodbye!" I simply said, and for the first time, I truly believed that.
 "I don’t regret it
The time we had together
I won’t forget it
But we both ended up where we belong
I guess goodbye made us strong
And yeah I’m happy
I found somebody too who makes me happy
And I knew one day I’d see you on the street
And it’d be bittersweet..."

Author's note:
A lot of time we get so caught up in our plans, dreams, fantasies, and what we think is best for our lives. We think we know everything, while God is trying to call us back to His plan. Sometimes, I hold on to ideas and people, thinking that will solve the problem...because stressing, worrying and obsessing usually solve everything, right? (sarcasm). This year, as I've learned to really turn my life over to God and let go of the past, future, and even right now, it has been incredible to see what He is doing in me and through me. When we step back and let God have complete control over our lives, we are able to be the people we were meant to be all along.

Good In Goodbye (Fiction Series) Part 9

One year later, I was back in San Francisco. It was amazing to see just how much things had changed; things I never saw coming or expected. People are right when they say God has a sense of humor, because he completely changed my dreams around to things I never even realized I wanted. We had been to New York City, Boston, LA, Nashville, Utah, and all sorts of other states in between. Carter and I had also been marking off the places he had wanted to show me last time. We were back in town for Carter's first major headlining tour and it was surreal to come back with a new set of eyes, seeing things in a different way. We had just landed and were driving towards Union Square, where our hotel was.
"You better come say hi to me," Sheila said over the phone. I had called to tell her we had made it safely.
"Of course I will! Besides, who else am I even going to say hi to back there?"
"Good point. You're living it up in the O.C now, so you've forgotten about us common folk. Did you take Carter''s private jet?" she asked with curiosity in her voice.
"Oh, yeah, because I fit in so well out there," I added sarcastically. "As a matter of fact we did! We didn't have to fight the crowds at the airport, which made things go a lot smoother."
"Agreed. Well, maybe now that my best friend is MARRIED to a rock star, I can get in on some of these perks too!" Carter and I had gotten married after the Idol tour had ended, he wrapped up the album and press, and somehow we managed to fit the simple wedding we both wanted, into our schedules.
Since we'd been married, I'd been traveling more, which meant segments from the road for E! I was also doing more phone interviews and blogging from the bus. Thank goodness for wifi, right?
"Of course, complete with backstage passes," I filled her in on the plan, letting her know she wasn't left out. We all knew how that could be.
"I like the sound of this. Tell me more!"
I laughed and rolled my eyes, thinking of how much I had missed her. Sure, we had kept in contact through Skype, Facebook and Twitter. But, it wasn't the same as being in the same room. That was all going to change again tonight.
"So, then you're coming to the concert tonight, right?" I asked as
"I wouldn't miss this for the world. A chance to see Carter's debut and your homecoming...It's not even an option."
"I've missed your face."
"I've missed yours too."
"I should probably go, we just pulled up to our hotel," I told her, as the driver opened our doors and started helping us with the luggage.
"Alright, alright, I see how it is. There are so many demands from you now; everyone needs a piece!" she replied dramatically.
"HAHA...You know it's nothing like that."
"I know! It just keeps things more entertaining this way. I don't have much in life, at least let me have this."
"Okay, but just this. Nothing else," I kidded.
I heard her laughing in the background, "Okay, okay! I can handle this."
We hung up and I returned to Carter''s side.He had just tipped the bellman and the rest of his band had arrived as we filed into the lobby to check in. Luckily, his manager usually takes care of all that and just hands us the key. Yet another perk to being a groupie. Plus, we were staying at the nicest hotel in the city, the Sir Francis Drake. It was decorated like an old King's palace with gold and red tones throughout. There were chandeliers and elaborate detailing as I craned my neck to look around.
We circled around with his guitar and bass players and drummer and his manager handed out room keys. "Hey guys, you know my wife, Stacey," it still sounded weird to hear him refer to me as wife. My stomach did a funny twist every time. He caught me smiling.
"Maybe we'll meet up with you in a bit for lunch or something?" I heard Carter tell them.
I nodded my head and agreed, though I was in a daze. I was already busy planning everything we were going to be doing together. We were going to visit my family, a few friends, and I wanted to take him to my favorite spots in the city.
"Gotta help the little one grow big and strong," Carter started speaking to my stomach. Before you start thinking that's just some weird habit of his, I guess I should have told you that I'm pregnant, about four months along."
"What did we talk about not doing that thing in public?" I asked him, as he stopped in his tracks, "Right...Sorry," He moved his hand and put it around my shoulder instead. "Is it good to be back?" He asked, changing the subject.
"Yeah," I nodded, even though I wasn't sure it was. "It really is. I didn't think I'd miss this place as much as I have...but wow!"
He smiled and kissed me on the cheek." I was hoping we'd have a little time to explore the city before the show tonight?"
"Yes! I've already got it mapped out. If we start by 2:30, we should have plenty of time to check out a lot of the stores in the area, and we can always do the Golden Gate tomorrow when you're completely free," I pulled the notebook out of my bag. I was a journalist, so I never went anywhere without it. I showed him a few pages I had glued pictures down to, and where everything was located.
"That's my little note taker. How did I not know you would have everything ready to go?" He picked on me.
"Yeah, I'm not exactly sure either, because I've been doing this since the day we met. Get with the program, kid," I nudged him in the side, and before I knew it, he pulled me into his side. He leaned down, giving me a kiss.
"I love you and your note taking." If you couldn't tell, we were still in our honey moon phase, where everything the other does is still charming. We'll see how long this lasts, I laughed to myself.
We checked into our room to get settled in, freshened up, and met Carter's band for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory on the top of Macy's. There was a perfect view of the city, and I was just soaking in the bay area smell. I remembered all of the afternoons I had spent here, still trying to figure out who I was, frustrated by the way things with Brad, and laughed at how mediocre it all seemed now.
When lunch finished up, Carter and I decided to go down to the wharf for a little while. There were too many stores surrounding Union Square that it would've been hard to pull me away before call time. We snacked on chocolate from Ghiradelli, bought matching sweatshirts in a souvenir shop, and walked along the pier, overlooking Alcatraz.
"This is so beautiful," Carter admired leaning against the railing, and I snuggled up next to him.
"Isn't it?" I looked out at the ocean in front of us, glistening from the rays of the sun.
We were silent for a few minutes, admiring God's beauty, when I heard my name being called. That really wasn't too unusual these days. It was normally because they recognized Carter or me from E! News. This time,  I turned around for the biggest surprise that I never saw coming.

Good In Goodbye (Fiction Series) Part 8

"Uh, Stacey? You haven't said anything in at least five minutes...Are you okay?" Carter asked, and I came to.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm better than great," I suddenly started letting words roll off my tongue, not really sure of what I was rambling on about. I think I even mentioned something about the Royal Wedding, but I can't be 100% sure. I was almost to the point of shaking; I don't whether that was nerves or excitement speaking. Possibly a mixture of both. I let his previous words sink in again, and a smile crept onto my face. "I want to marry you, yes," I simply stated.
"Are you sure? Because...." He ran his fingers through his hair, and just stared at me, waiting for an answer.
"I'm sorry it took me awhile, I just...I was never the girl who thought she'd get married. So, the fact that you're sitting here in front of me is pretty mind boggling at how God had a plan the entire time." I sat there in amazement, thinking about how my life had taken a very different turned than I had ever dreamed of. "I love you, Carter. You're the best thing that has have ever happened to me. If the rest of our lives are anything like the journey has been so far, I think we're going to be okay." A lot of people would probably be shaking their heads at the idea of us getting married not very long after having met and the time that we'd been dating, but to quote Taylor Swift, "It's not theirs to speculate if it's wrong, your hands are tough, but they are where mine belong in..." in her song 'Ours'.
"Me too, baby, me too!" He slid the ring on my left hand, leaning down and wrapping his arms around me.
Tears welled up in my eyes, looking down at the chunk of diamond that was now resting on my finger. "This is probably way more than we, or you, could afford right now," I said examining it a little more closely.
"Don't worry about that. Maybe I worked something out; trust me, our finances will be just fine."
"I already trust you."

That was the last nights of "normalness", before Carter went out on tour with the Idols. Though, it was hardly anything but normal. I mean, it's not everyday that you get engaged (at least in my life it's not). He was still constantly writing and planning for his record, and flying out to the studio when time allotted for it, which was very rare. So, even if he was in town, there was very little time for hanging out, just the two of us. No matter how busy he got, he was always checking in on me. He'd call every night after the show and meet and greets with fans. They'd been gone for close to two months now, traveling the country, but it was getting ready to wrap up with the final show in Los Angeles, which was just a few days away.
"Hello?" I answered, groggily from bed most nights.
"Hi beautiful!" He'd respond with over the phone, and my heart would skip a few beats.
"How was the show?"
"It was phenomenal. I can't wait until you see the show in just a few days."
"Me either! How's everyone else been with life on the road?" He filled me in on some of the pranks they'd been playing on one another, the drama that had gone down at times, and the way they'd all really grown closer to one another.
"We're all going to be friends the rest of our lives. I mean, the bond we have is unlike anything we've all experienced. It's almost like music camp," he said, reflecting on the some of his favorite memories. He sounded like such a kid the way he got giddy about the small things that happened to him.
"That sounds like so much fun! I can't wait to see all of them again." I remembered meeting them at the finale, and meeting them previously as they had gotten voted off. And of course, the occasional video bomb they'd do while Carter and I were skyping.
"They can't wait to see you either, and officially meet as my fiance. They've heard enough about you the past couple months, though, they probably feel like they have."
"Hopefully good things," I had a bit of skepticism in my voice, teasing him.
"Oh no! Terrible things, you know..." He joked back. I was glad we had the kind of relationship where we could mess with each other, but knew just how much we loved each other at the same time.
He told me about the crazy fans, the interviews they did on a daily basis, and all the sightseeing they'd been doing before each show if there was time.
"I can't wait until I'm touring solo, and you can come out on the road with me more. At least when you're not working that is." We had talked about the prospect of me not working, but in the end, it really wasn't an option. I wasn't the housewife type, and I didn't intend to start planning on that now.
"I can't either! I know that'll be in just a short amount of time. Judging by the dedication of your fans, I'm sure you'll be just fine. Plus, you're incredibly talented. The record execs would be crazy not to push a tour incredibly soon after the CD drops."
"Thanks, honey. And I can take you back to some of the places we've seen already. I'm making a list!"
"Oh, really?" I was intrigued by the fact that he had been planning out these things just for us to do, since I couldn't be with him at the moment. I was currently working on our wedding. "Fill me in on some of these places."
"Yes, really! I found the coolest vintage store that had so many nick knacks like random statues, books, and albums. I just might have found something really special for you there."
"Wow! I feel special. I can't wait to see it."
"I hope you like it."
"Of course, I'll love it, you picked it out. But, in the meantime I have a wedding to be planning," I reminded him, in case he had forgotten that we were supposed to talk about some of the arrangements.
"Oh, congratulations! Who are you marrying?" He asked, sarcastically. I rolled my eyes at his lame sense of humor.
"My best friend! He's pretty good looking too."
I heard a deep laughter come through the receiver, and I knew he was smiling from ear to ear.
"I miss you pretty girl," the laughing faded, and I heard a desperation in his voice. He sighed, and stayed quiet for a few minutes.
"I miss you too, but you're having the time of your life on tour. We'll be back together soon enough. And don't think all of your 'pretty girl' talk is going to get you out of wedding planning," I warned him.
"Fine, fine...Do you have any ideas so far?"
I sat up in bed, turning on the light on my side table, and opening the drawer just below it. I had been saving a bunch of articles from wedding magazines, or jotting down sketches of what I saw in my mind; gluing them all down in my Smash book. I flipped through the pages and told him a few ideas I'd had.
"As a matter of fact, I do. I want to go with a classy vintage feel, with old artifacts, possibly from both of our families, or random picture frames...things like that."
"I love that! Maybe we can go antiquing when I get back and pick up a few things."
"I'd really like that. I've been saving a bunch of things from Pinterest for ideas on wedding photos, engagement photos, and all that good stuff."
"Again, as soon as I get back, I'll sit down with you and we can go over all of that. We'll have the wedding of your dreams, I promise. Until then, you just keep up with all of those ideas and hold onto that feeling of missing me, so you'll still want to marry me when I return."
"Of course! I don't think I could just stop something like that. Besides, it's your wedding too. I just want a pretty, simple wedding with a few friends and family. I have you, and I'd rather focus on our marriage than some big, fancy wedding," I said from the heart, yawning. All of these late night talks were catching up to me. I still had to get up early every morning for work at E! We shot the tele prompt shots around six a.m, and the rest of the day was devoted to any stories and interviews that still needed researching or on location shoots.
"I'm gonna let you get back to sleep, Sleepyhead," he laughed at me, and I breathed a deep sigh.
"I do like talking to you, I promise, I'm just..." I yawned again, "Exhausted. It has been an extremely long week," Thinking back to all the stories we'd been covering this week. It was probably the most research I had ever done. The Emmy's were coming up pretty soon, and it was my first major event with E!, so I had to make a good impression.
"It's okay, Stace, I'm getting kind of tired too, and everyone else is turning in for the night. I don't want to annoy them with our mushiness," he chuckled.
"That's understandable! If I weren't us, I'd definitely be annoyed," I set the wedding book back on the table next to me, and pulled the covers back up to my neck.
"Agreed. Well, we'll be in Sacramento tomorrow, then San Jose, and finally by Friday, I'll be back with you!"
"I'll be counting down the days."
He told me he loved me, said a prayer over me, and we hung up the phone. It was our nightly routine, and it always gave me a sense of peace as I drifted off to sleep. No matter where I was or what I was doing, I knew God was watching out for me, and that He had sent this incredible guy on earth to watch out for me, as well.

The next few days, I kept myself busy at work, getting ideas for the wedding and getting an outfit ready for the concert on Friday at Nokia. I was growing nervous with anticipation and excitement at seeing Carter once again, and being able to get to know the rest of his Idol family a little better. Finally, the day arrived. I had decided to surprise him by saying I'd be busy the entire day, so we wouldn't be able to hang out until after the show, when in actuality, I had the day off. I pulled into the parking lot, and picked up the pace as I flashed my VIP pass to the backstage area. I had gotten in contact with one of the crew members and explained the situation, so he helped me out a bit.
I walked through several hallways before finding the one that led to the main press room. I saw all of the Idols spread out across the room doing interviews or waiting by the window for their turn to come up. I spotted Carter immediately, with his distinct style and stature.
I snuck up behind him, trying to keep everyone around us quiet from spoiling it. I put my hands around his eyes to block out everything else. "Guess who?" I asked, in a sing-songy, disguised voice.
"No way!" he repeated several times moving my hands, turning around, immediately pulling me into his chest.
"Hey, how'd you know it's me?" I was almost offended.
"If I couldn't tell it was you, that would basically make me the worst fiance ever!"
"True," I admitted, and leaned my head against his upper body. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too!" He kissed the top of my head, and I could feel his heart beating wildly next to my ear.
"Yes, we all know how much you've missed each other!" I heard several of the contestants yell, making kissing noises, and a few gags.
Carter ignored them, and turned back towards me, rubbing my shoulders, "I thought you were busy all day today?"
"Nah, I had the day off the entire time, but I just wanted to make you think I didn't  so I could make it a surprise!"
"I have to admit this was way better. So glad you're here," He pulled me in; his lips touching mine in a kiss. I had missed that.
"Next time you go on the road, I'm totally going with you."
"I'm definitely not objecting to that!" For the moment, it was as though we were the only two in the room, even though there were plenty others to witness our special moment.
Carter showed me around the arena, and I got to see what it was like to be on tour; what a normal day was like for them. We made a few random videos of walking around, singing, and just hanging out with everyone. Then, we decided to get some coffee which was in walking distance, just steps away from the theater. I ordered an ice tea, while he got an iced coffee. We walked outside, to sit at a table with an umbrella in a shady spot. It was September, but the heat was still up pretty high in California.
"So, tell me more about some of those wedding plans. Because I'm pretty sure I spotted the book sticking out of your bag, there," Carter nodded towards the wedding book that did happen to be sticking out.
"Well, I thought, you know...If there was time," I suddenly blushed.
He laughed at me, giving a sincere glance my way, "And you wouldn't be you if you didn't," he added.
"That's for sure," I pulled the notebook out, and opened it up to show him some of the ideas I had scribbled down.
For the next couple hours, we were both dishing out ideas we had for one of the most important days of our lives. I was surprised at how calm he was being about the whole thing. Most guys would have groaned at the thought of it, but not mine. I knew I had picked a good one. Pretty soon, he had to get back in time for the show to start. I killed time with some of the family members that had joined the tour for tonight. They were warm and inviting, which made me feel right at home, seeing as I was the "newbie" to the circle. They'd all known each other from the first rounds of auditions last year, and I was just showing up.
They had reserved a section for family and friends off to the left side of the stage. I had a great view  from the front row sitting next to some of Carter's family and friends. We were talking about the wedding, and getting to know one another. I waited in my seat, as a few girls came up to me, giggling and talking with one another.
"Hi, are you Stacey, Carter's girlfriend?" They asked me, with their phones in hand.
"I am," I smiled. "What are your names?" I stood up, so it would be a little less awkward.
"I'm Amy, and this is Jessica," Amy introduced herself and her friend. They were both blonde, complete with T-shirts and posters they had made. They were the ultimate fans.
"It's nice to meet you guys. I'm Stacey," I shook their hands, and asked them who they were here to see.
"Carter, of course," they seemed to swoon.
"Me too," I winked to them, as they 'awed'.
"We were wondering if we could get our picture with you?" they nervously looked at one another. "You're on E! News now, right?"Jessica asked.
"Yeah, I am. I just started a few months ago!"
"That's so awesome! Is that how you and Carter met?"
"Well, I was working for a newspaper in San Francisco. They flew me out to the finale, and he happened to be one of the guys I interviewed that night. We hit it off, and the rest is history."
"Ah! I so hope a love story like that happens to me someday."
"Nah, you'll want your own. Trust me, I was never the girl that guys gave a second glance. I only had one other boyfriend before Carter, and after meeting him, none of that mattered."
I saw Amy and Jessica's eyes grow wide with love and wonder. Probably daydreaming about their own future husband's. It made my heart smile, remembering those days. I hadn't necessarily wanted to get married, but still dreamed that maybe, someday, a guy would love me enough to want to spend the rest of his life with me. That day was getting closer, because I had found him.
"You girls are young, though. You have plenty of time. Don't try to grow up too fast," I tried to advise them. In this generation, it seemed all the teenagers were doing things I never would've imagined at their age...or any age. "Our generation seems to be trying to do that too often these days."
"I agree. Thanks so much for everything! And we'll remember that," Jessica told me. We took our pictures together, and they were squealing with one another again, hurrying back to their seats.  A few more people followed their lead to talk to our section. Whether it was to tell us congratulations on the engagement, ask how the wedding planning was going, how the long distance relationship was treating us, or even to see the ring. I couldn't complain, because I asked people questions like this on a daily basis. Luckily, I had no problem answering them.
Soon, the stage lights dimmed and the top ten walked out. They flashed a video on the screen, and the band kicked in. This was their very last show as a group, and they were enjoying every second of it. They all did their solos, and accompanied one another with backup vocals, mixing things up a bit. It was nice to see the relationship they'd all grown to have.
A couple hours later, as the show came to a close, I headed backstage to say hi to everyone. Carter spotted me and ran over, holding me close to him, "What did you think?" His eyes were wide, and he was a bit sweaty from all the running around onstage. I still leaned into him for a hug. He smiled, as he let me go and let his hand fall perfectly into mine.
"You were all so good! I'm so proud of you," I stood on my tiptoe's and gave him a kiss.
"I was your favorite, right?" He winked and raised an eyebrow to me, as the rest of the group filed into the room, settling in for the meet and greet.
"Is that even a question?"
"Well, it is...But, a pretty obvious one, I think." He tried to act serious, but it was rare that he could keep that up for long.
I nodded in agreement. He had to run off to meet some fans with the rest of the group, but I had gotten used to the fact that this was our life now. Fans and celebrities weren't just going to be part of my work life now, it was going to be taking other aspects too. I was okay with that. We were finally able to start whatever new life was in store for us. As the others finished meeting fans, they went to their dressing rooms to change, and came back out, ready for dinner. It was going to be one heck of a celebration, if you ask me.

Part 9 coming soon. Stay tuned!
