The Last Long Wednesday
Today was my very last long day of classes, and surprisingly enough this quarter went by fairly quickly. I feel like I was just starting to prepare myself to return to school after Christmas break, and here we are at spring break already. Wow.
It's funny how towards the end of the quarter, it all doesn't seem quite as intimidating. Like, why can't I just have that mentality from the beginning? Something to think about for next time, I suppose.
Today was a rather different one, and much more enjoyable, I must say.
In feature writing, we had a guest speaker, who is the editor-in-chief of one of our local magazines. She talked to us about opportunities to do a bit of freelance writing, internships and told us how she got her start. It was fascinating! Then, after class I was able to talk to her a few minutes about possibly doing an internship during the summer or maybe even the fall, depending on how my schedule looks at that time.
Normally, I would stay on campus for lunch, but my mom picked me up instead. We didn't eat, but I had to pick up some food for our party at the newspaper, so we ran to Albertson's. I grabbed a couple bags of chips and then we decided to pick up some bagels for breakfast in the morning and went to Target for a little while. By the time we'd run all these errands, I was ready to call it a day! HA!
I went back to school a few minutes early, and our party started at 12:45. We all brought different foods, a la potluck style, so there were tacos, chicken, pizza, cupcakes, cookies and more. We ate a lot. There was a movie playing in the background, but I don't remember the name…It was from the 70s. I hung out with the editors most of the time, just talking and messing around. Then, we also did awards, just to showcase everyone and to honor the handwork that everyone has put in, as well as the fact that we're all essential to the team and have different roles that we play. I was "awarded" with "most optimistic!" I thought that was pretty exciting, though I can't say I'm always that way.
When class was finished, I stayed in the newspaper room to hang out with some of the editors. We also got a bit of a head start on re-organizing the room, which we hope to complete over spring break. And then we laughed more…
Finally, I had to go to my next class. I thought we were going to have to present, but we ended up just listening to a lecture from his PowerPoint. I wrote notes, read a little, drew a little…Good times. As soon as class was over, I was out of there. Usually, I have another class after, but due to the fact that we were watching Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe, there's no way I was staying. After watching it last quarter (with the same professor), I had no desire to see it again. It's one of those films you really only need to see once. Plus, I found the script online…So, there's that.
Now, I'm at home, listening to music, needing to work on a couple of papers and to start studying for finals. Also, I want to watch Once Upon A Time, because that's my new show! AH! IT'S SO GOOD!
That's all for now,
Shelby :)

Speech Class
Are speeches my favorite thing in the world to do? No. Are they as bad as they used to be? No. I actually don't mind them TOO much now, and I'm getting better with giving speeches. I've always gotten decent grades on them, I'd just always get SO nervous! I feel much more confident, since I've grown up from the days of JR. Hi=awkward phase, thank goodness!
If I'm wanting to get into Journalism, or any other kind of job in the public eye, and I do, then this class is exactly what I need. It's all about the basics of speech: writing one, how to give one, overcoming stage fright, etc. So far I'm enjoying it! :)
Friday, I'll be giving my first "official" speech for a grade. The last one we did was just an introduction to get to know the class. This time around we're doing demonstrations. Today was the first day, and it went great! It's so cool to get to learn more about everyone in the class, though you might not ever talk to them, or get to know them personally. A lot of personalities come through with these speeches; one girl did color guard techniques, another did kickboxing, hair extensions, and a guy did recycling. It was fun! And eased some of my nerves about what I have planned for mine!
I'm making "Snow Capped Chocolate Crinkle Cookies"! I had to make a power point for my speech, so I took some pictures yesterday! Here are a few of them! :)
Nervous, but excited to get it over with on Friday! Hopefully there'll be enough class time to go! The holiday set us back a little lol.

When's Christmas Break?
School's going good! I mean, about as much as it can, I guess...but it's probably the most overwhelming workload I've had since my Senior year of high school. I like the people in my classes and my teachers, however, it's EVERY DAY, so it's kind of tiring! I'm behind in math, because lately I've become great at procrastinating...but everything else is going fine!
There's just a lot going on in my mind right now....

The First Day of School
Today I started my first day of my Sophomore year in college...CRAZY! So, over the past week, I looked at some pictures of my first days when I was in elementary school; brought back some great memories! I thought I would share some pictures!
Today was great! I had two classes, which are only 50 minutes a piece, so it's not too bad! And I also have two online classes, so it's starting to feel a little overwhelming, not gonna lie, but it's gonna be great! I'm really looking forward to getting to know some more people, and I get to hang out with one of my friends I met my first semester in Bio Lab. Should be fun! :) And this might sound bad, but I'm already going to be playing hooky tomorrow ;) It's for Taylor Swift, what can I say? LOL.

Back to School Shopping-Sunday/Monday
Yesterday, I went to LA with my parents, my aunt, and my uncle. We met up with a friend of my dad's and uncle's, and his wife! We had lunch at a Mexican restaurant our family has been going to for years, even before I was born. It's pretty tasty!
After lunch, the guys went to a Dodger game, and the girls went shopping at the Glendale Galleria! It was so much fun to just get out of town (again) for a few hours. I needed to be with my family; they can get me to laugh like no one else can.
On the car ride home, my uncle was singing along to, "I Love You This Big" by Scotty McCreery, and then my dad wanted to hear Lauren Alaina's song. We were all singing, making hand motions and acting crazy, it was great! I love my family so much, and it's in these simple moments of just singing to a song on the radio or having a night at home that I realize just how much I love them, and how different my life would be if they weren't in it. I'm so blessed to have them in my life! So many times I get caught up in material things, and that I have to do this and that to be happy...but when I spend time with my family, like we did yesterday, it puts things in perspective
I got a couple shirts, bracelets, and a purse!
Today, when my mom and I went grocery shopping, I picked up the basic school supplies, like Notebooks, paper, pencils, etc. I got to thinking about how funny it is that back to school shopping used to be such a big deal. I used to plan new outfits for the entire week, and make sure I had the coolest supplies, because who wanted solid colors? I remember wanting everything to look perfect. It's weird how things change. I miss that excitement of the night before school, waiting to wear my first day of school outfit, get all the new papers and rules for class (I was a weird kid), see my friends, meet new classmates, and hear about what was in store for the year.
College is an exciting time; I've been able to do a lot of things I wouldn't be able to if I was still in high school. I've met a lot of great friends out there, and I've had good teachers as well. I guess this is all just part of growing up. It's tough, but it has to be done. Life is all about change, and how you react to it, so my goal is to make the most of each situation I'm faced with!
That's all for now,
Shelby
Do you guys have any back to school memories?
chips and salsa. I was at my own table, so I got these to myself ;) |

Fall Fashion
With "back to school" shopping coming up pretty soon, I decided to look through some old magazines/books to get some inspiration for outfit ideas when I'm at the mall. For as long as I can remember (even back in like 5th grade) I remember I'd always have a certain look of Hilary Duff or Mary-Kate and Ashley that I would want to copy, but then I'd have my own twist when it actually came to buying. It has always worked for me, because I like to have an idea of what I'm looking for when looking for a specific event, otherwise it can become too overwhelming.
Here are some of the clothes/inspirations I found:
I also really love the style of Pretty Little Liars, especially Aria and Spencer, they have the most similar styles to mine. I found a Tumblr that finds the clothes they're wearing! Even though most are usually out of my price range, it's still fun to look at :)
